Small Jewish Tour

 

Main attractions we will visit:

Deák square

We will start our tour near the Deák square, in the city centre. You will learn about the history of the Jewish district and life of the Jewish community.

Király street 

We will walk through Király street, you will hear about the former Budapest ghetto, Jewish memories, nice buildings, Jewish life in the 19-20. century.

Synagogue and mikve in Kazinczy street

We will visit the Kazinczy synagogue, and I will show you where the only working mikve is located. 

Dohány Synagogue's complex

We can visit the largest synagogue of Europe in Dohány street, I have the permission from the Hungarian Jewish Community to guide inside the building, I show you the Heroes’ Temple and  the monument commemorating the victims of WW2, the Martirs' Cemetery, the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park, the Tree of Life, the "Righteous Among the Nations" Memorial, the Hungarian Jewish Museum you will visit with audioguide. 

Synagogue in Rumbach street, Carl Lutz Memorial

We will see the synagogue in Rumbach street from outside (or we can visit this synagogue instead of Kazinczy Synagogue upon your choice).  I will tell you the stories how people could survive this terrible period.

We will stop in an authentical Jewish café where you can taste a traditional Jewish cake. 

IMPORTANT: the Dohány and the Kazinczy synagogues and the Hungarian Jewish Museum are closed on Saturdays and Jewish religious and on Hungarian national holidays. If you share your requested visiting date with me, I will check availability for you. 
 

Information: Men should not enter the synagogue without covering their heads, kippha is provided at ticket entrance. Sleeveless tops, short skirts or shorts are not appropriate for entry.

Let’s discover the 7th district, the Jewish quarter, the so called Synagoge triangle and the monuments. Let’s walk along the streets, which belonged to the former ghetto in Budapest. Jewish people who lived here in Budapest played important role in culture, arts, trade and business life in 19th century. You will have a personal experience about Hungarian Jewish culture and history and you will also have some impression about today's life and street art works. We will have a break and taste traditional jewish cake in a friendly Jewish café.

Important to know before you go:

The Small Jewish tour will be a light continuous walking for up to 4 hours.

As it is a private tour we can stop or have a short break if you feel tired. 

Tours will go under all weather conditions. In case of rain the main stops can be modified.
