The European Maccabi Games are held every four years. This is a competition where the best Jewish sportwomen and sportmen participate but it is not only about the sport but a great opportunity to meet people, to establish new contacts or to have a very good program with family or friends.
Budapest is so lucky that the European Maccabi Games will be held here between 29 July and 7 August 2019.
Can you imagine that more than 2000 athletes will come from 40 countries and compete in almost 20 disciplines?
In addition, the biggest cultural festival of Europe, the Jewish Cultural Feast will be organized also during the time of the Maccabi Games. A lot of amazing cultural events, programs will be organized by different Jewish Organizations.
One more interesting thing connected with this sport event: a park next to Buda Castle and Chain Bridge has been named after the capital of Israel, Jerusalem. The start of the half-marathon running will be very close to this park on 3th August, so every runner will run through the Jerusalem Park!
Don’t miss the opening ceremony on 30th July, but there are other events you can take part: Shabbat Service on 02th August and the closing ceremony on 6th August.
If you come to the European Maccabi Game as an athlete or a guest or a volunteer, I would be happy to offer you my walking tours, kosher and non-kosher restaurants for your free time. If you prefer sightseeing in smaller groups and would like to spend your time seeing only the things you are most interested in, if you would like to discover the Jewish Quarter and the Jewish heritage sights, I would be happy to tailor the tour to your needs.
