Margaret Island Tour
Margaret Island is unique because it is a green area in the middle of Budapest. If you prefer a peaceful hideaway from the busy downtown, it is the best place for you. Here are plenty of sights to see and things to do.
We start our tour from the Margaret Bridge, the second permenant bridge of the city. After learning the history of the bridge, we walk to the Margaret Island. We listen to the music of the musical fountain and walk to the beautiful rose garden. We explore the Dominican Convent’s ruins from the 13th century where Princess Margaret lived and died at her young age. We will visit the St. Michael’s Church and climb up to the water tower where we have a very nice lookout view. We finish our walk in the Japanese Garden, where you can find nice plants and peace.
Other optional attractions what we can see if you’d like: small zoo, another musical fountain, open air theatre and cinema, water park, swimming pool, playground, Centenary Monument, two spa hotels, snack restaurants and bars. There is also a 5 km long jogging path on the island.
I will tell you why it was called Island of Rabbits (Nyulak szigete) in the middle Ages, why it became Margaret Island later and you will learn the interesting history of the island.
If you don’t want to walk, we can rent carts, electric cars and buggies,as well.
